Live Sent

We’ve been working through what it means to be on-mission with Jesus. We are all called to “live sent”. Our lives are a letter from God to the world and we don’t want to be “junk mail”! And the stakes are high. Two crucial truths demand that we “live sent”:

1. The lostness of man.  People are not morally neutral before God. God is holy and people are lost and under God’s judgment apart from Christ. The good news is that Jesus has been crucified, died, buried, and risen again to take away the judgment from our sins! Lost people matter to God and need to hear the good news!

2. The glory of Jesus Christ: We were created to be captivated by God’s glory and jealous for the spread of God’s glory. We echo Isaiah’s words in 26:8 – “Your name and your fame is the desire of our souls!”

These are huge truths and “living sent” is a huge task. It will take a huge love to do it. The great command states:

“And [Jesus] answered, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself." (Luke 10:27)

That’s it! Love is the key!

How do I love God? By spreading his fame to the nations and my neighbors! You can’t be jealous for the fame of Christ among the nations if you don’t care about the fame of Christ among your neighbors.

How to I love my neighbor? By sharing the live giving message of the cross! You can’t care about the lost in China, Mongolia or Kurdistan if you don’t care about the lost in Winter Garden, Ocoee, or Oakland.

So I urge you – pray for greater love for God. And pray for greater love for your neighbors.  Then we will really “live sent” lives both locally and globally!

The well wisher of your soul’s happiness,

Pastor Tom

Culture and Christ

Posted by Tom Welch on March 24, 2010 under News | Be the First to Comment

From: “Unfashionable: Making a Difference in the World by Being Different” (Tullian Tchividjian)

“For a long time now, I’ve been convinced that what happens in New York (finance), Hollywood (entertainment), Silicon Valley (technology), and Miami (fashion) has a far greater impact on how our culture thinks about reality than what happens in Washington DC (politics). It’s superimportant for us to understand that politics are reflective, not directive. That is, the political arena is the place where policies are made that reflect the values of our culture – the habits of heart and mind – that are being shaped by these other, more strategic arenas. As the Scottish politician Andrew Fletcher said, “Let me write the songs of a nation; I don’t care who writes its laws.”

New prayer need!

::truth::

“And Jesus said to [the Pharisees], "I ask you, is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do harm, to save life or to destroy it?" Luke 6:9

You might be a Pharisee if (stolen from TreyMorgan.net)

1. If you consider the church roll the Lamb’s book of Life.

2. If you’re disgusted by the moral filth that is playing out of your own DVD player.

3. If you think Christianity is about rules rather than relationship.

4. If you think any church that has experienced growth must be watering down the Gospel.

5. If you won’t let your kids watch "The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe" because there’s a witch in the movie.

6. If you only see what is wrong in others and never what is right.

7. If you feel it’s your spiritual job to "fix" other people, because you only see what’s wrong in others and never what’s right.

8. If you’re so obsessed with traditions and religion that you miss that it’s all about Jesus.

9. If you accept only the KJV as authorized because it’s the version that Paul & Silas carried.

How to avoid being a Pharisee:

1. Be aware of how prone you are to being a Pharisee

2. Seek humility. Right now

3. Look for evidences of grace in other’s lives

4. Do good. Save life. Especially if it is on a Sunday!

5. Repent deeply and daily

6. Cultivate compassion on the less fortunate

7. Spend time at the foot of the cross

8. Identify and tear down the idols of your heart

9. Don’t take yourself so seriously

10. Drink deeply from the wells of grace.

::prayer::

Darlene M: Darlene’s work situation is deteriorating. Though she has excellent reviews, her hours are being cut-back by other workers who seem to have it out for her. Pray the Lord’s protection and provision. And if you know of anyone hiring, please reply!

Sandee L.:  Pray for Maxine L. whose husband left her.  She has 2 small children and no one to help with the kids. She may not be able to keep her job because of child care.  Also, Karen R. is going through difficult family situations and depression.

Tony L.:  Pray for Frank Corr (Brother-in-law to Tony’s manager) having bypass surgery.

John D.:  Please pray for Lucien and Mona.  Mona is terminally ill and her doctors will not operate due to the risks involved.  Please pray for a miracle from god and help them see the love of God, family and friends.  May they see the kindness of Christ in these terrible times.  Let them find joy in each other and all life has given them and deflect the bitterness.

Julie V.:  Please pray for Giuliana.  She’s not eating enough.  Pray that the doctor will be able to find the problem and be able to help her.

Deb S.:  Kathi worked 88 hrs last week.  Please pray for strength for another week in Louisiana.

Nancy W.:  Pray for spiritual protection and empowerment for our family.  Guidance in decisions.  Jobs for Janna and Jonathan.

Outreach Idea of the Week: Volunteer with Non-Profits. Find a non-profit (like the YMCA!) in your part of the city and take a Saturday a month to serve your city. Bring your neighbors, your friends, or your small group. Spend time with your church serving your city. Once a month. You can do it!
